Text Messaging

I'm very happy with my Smart service - BUT - our house alarm works best when it texts with an alert, it works terribly when it has to phone out (it sends about 20,000 calls, and can't convey any information!).

Are there any plans to introduce texting on Smart landlines?

i really dont think so and as far as i know the text over fixed line service was never a success in eircom.

can you set your alarm up to text over the gsm network? this would make for a much more robust alarm service as it would still work if a burgler cut your phone line.

My brother-in-law set up the alarm, so he's the one dictating the spec! I'll see if he could possibly use a GSM module in the current set-up.

I have a GSM module in mine - much better and the credit in pay as you go sims no longer expires.
