View Full Version : Smart telecom IPTV Trial

Smart Telecom are looking for a number of users to go on our latest IPTV (Over DSL) trail.

To be eligible you must have a Smart Telecom Broadband connection and at least one TV.

Please send the following information to me via PM.

Smart Phone number
Location of phone line in residence
Location of all TV's to be served.

The location of the phone line and tvs are required to determine the best way to get the signal to the box.

Eligibility will be based on line quality and location and does have a fixed limit of places - so I'm afraid we cant guarantee that everyone will get to be on trial.

The trial will be for 3 months (free of charge of course) and we would expect regular updates and feedback.

Thanks,

Ejay.

We have had a good response from these boards and elsewhere and we have now reached our user numbers for the trial.

Anyone who sent me a pm should receive an email detailing the next steps or a pm reply if their lines/location were unsuitable for the trial.

Thanks for you assistance!

Ejay.

So when does it all kick off?

I got feeling it be at least another week before things are up and running especially if they are sending out another router which supports IpTV,

Ejay is there a chance of us who cant get full use of all the goodies from smart having a discount, so I am assuming that you are streaming Iptv over cables like NTL, caause if letterkenny cant support IpTV, as I can not see any reason if you were just streaming it over BB, but considering the trouble you had with smart vision, got strong feeling the same is going to happen with IpTV.

So when does it all kick off?

It will be a couple of weeks at least but you should be notified at some point in the mean time.

I will see if we can set up a private forum for the Trial phase to more easily communicate things to everyone.

against a private forum, let everyone see how things progresses, by using private forum bit like cloak and daggers

EJay

Not at all. Its a private trial, it will get a private forum.

When it is publicly launched it can be discussed in its own public forum just like all of our other products.

I argue against this move is simply giving the amount of problems with smart vision as displayed both in this forum and parkwest private forum and to date there still problems with it, I am keen to see how the trial progresses, before I make a decisions as to wether to pay more money for a product which has potential problems, therefore it would be a waste of money.

also you not stated as to why Letterkenny isnt in the trial, once again it looks like most of the country wont be able to get IpTV, apart from cities such as Cork, Galway and Dublin

It's a trial service, not a developed public offering yet. It's also nothing to do with the existing Smart Vision services so would have no relevance to those discussions.

Most products, technical and otherwise, are tested and tried out in private by a panel of users. It's the only way you can work the bugs out and fine tune a product. It's a very normal part of any product development programme. It's much like beta testing software.

I'm also quite sure that Smart Telecom don't want their competition seeing what they're about to launch either!

So, basically, chill and let them get on with their test phase. At least they're going to the bother of testing it out properly before launching it. Hopefully when it does launch it will be an interesting and very polished product!

All good valid points, much the same as game beta testing it is all done in private you really cant have a private test forum open to the public the whole idea would be for the testers to give their feedback without those not testing it throwing in their 2cents worth confusing the matter.

As far as im aware you are required to sign a NDA to be on the trial - so i guess it makes sense to have a private forum for the discussion.

Creating a private forum is an excellent idea and we will do just that once the trial begins.

Is a TV tuner card usable if I don't own a TV set?

but you must have been sleeping, only people involved in the trials can gain access to this site, and as these people have been selected by applying via the boards and in the forum here, but you have to be close to a major city, or else it be a miracle to get it

this trial still going on, was told way back that all trial places were filled, just goes to show it must still be bad if they are still trialing, before the soft roll out

EJay
7th April, 01:06 PM
John - with respect - you are not part of the trial and would therefore have no idea what is going on in the trial. Many people are on the trial that did not request access to the forum and are only doing so now.

I will be removing your posts from here on in when they include wild speculation or incorrect information and essentially add nothing to the thread. The forums here are a great way to get problems solved, air grievances and even for learning a thing or two - so please - don't ruin it for others with ill informed posts.

Thanks,

Ejay.

Hi Ejay,

Are you able to tell us how it is going at all?

I got in on time for the trial but was refused, I presume because my line would not be able to handle it.
I wish I'd applied for my dad's place because his line is definitely better, and he had just gotten a new HDTV right beside the modem with no cable upstairs so now it is just used for gaming.
