I signed up for smart on the 12th of march and smart got my dsl cut off from Eircom in less than 24 hours. That's a good start i thought but how wrong was i.Almost 5 weeks later and i am still no nearer to changing isp. After the 10 days their sales rep mis-informed me it would take to switch i took to ringing their customer support if that is the right thing to call them. The 1st call i made was after the 10 days and i was infomed it would take 2 more days for it to be changed over.I foolishly gave them the benefit of the doubt and when nothing changed i took to ringing them again.I was then told everything is set to go for on their computer but of course nothing happened. For the last 3 weeks i have rang to be told 3 more weeks twice and then the final insult of we don't know when it will be changed over.Taking 5 weeks to change isp is disgraceful for this day and age and i feel my patience has now dwindled to making one more call to offer them one more week to sort it or i will have no option but to look elsewhere for broadband. Will that change anything ? I seriously doubt it.What annoys me even more is that in 5 weeks they did not contact me even once to say there is some imaginary problem or whatnot.Sending an email must be one of smarts problems they seem to be having as well.
Rant over.

my friend applied via online process, yip Smart can give him BB, he even got the modem within a fews days, 7 weeks later still no sign of switching over, spoke to smart on a few occassion everything is in eircom, hand, spoke to an eircom worker in the exchange finds out he cant switch over to smart due to him being on a carrier line, got another friend who has switched over to smart but guess what he not got a modem, this guy was actually switched over within 5 days

It does take a long time to switch over. I think Smart should review their policy in telling customers it takes 10 working days. I was waiting 3 weeks for the router to arrive, and then another 3 weeks to be switched to Smart. And by the sounds of it, this is regular.
Honesty is the best policy. Just say it could take from 2 to 6 weeks to be switched and you'll get alot less angry calls to customer support.

I signed up on 6th of April and was told by the Smart rep that it'd take between 15 and 20 working days... so I guess this more realistic estimate is being taken on board.
Though going on Smart Telecoms performance so far, I'd well believe the delays are eircoms fault... I signed up online (at night) on the 6th, and got a phonecall to confirm my order the following morning.
Which beats the crap out of UTV's effort of not accepting my eircom account number, refusing to sign me up over the phone, and taking 3 weeks just to post out the bloody forms.
So far I'm impressed with how Smart is handling my signup.

6 weeks came and went without any contact except for a knock on the door from a passing smart sales rep wondering if i was interested in getting broadband off them. After telling him i was waiting 6 weeks he decided to retake my details.
Later that night i got 2 mails from smart, phase2/3 mails so maybe he did something. Two days later the modem and phone number came but no activation.
Finally got switched on today for a total of 7 weeks and 1 day to change isp which is disgraceful for this day and age.
Now where do i go to moan about my download speeds and pings being worse than what they were with eircom. :p

The "Broadband Support" forum.
Don't worry about it too much though, I'm sure they'll be able to sort you out... I had the same problem at first... flying along now.
Dont forget to include your phone number in your profile so we dont have to guess who you are :)

After complaining to Smart/Comreg and Eircom I was informed of the following:
1. When you submit your order it takes 10 working days before processing begins. This is referred to as the cooling off period.
2. Once the order goes in it will take 25 working days to switch you on to Smart.
In total it will take 35 working days to be enabled on Smart. I have this detail in writing.
Could you kindly ask your sales staff to stop lying to potential customers?
Thank you,
Belgario
