If you signed up for smart and opted to pay by credit card agreed to a direct debit then don't use the website with the "My Account" bit to pay as the direct debit bit handles that.

I got my bill at the start of the month and decided to pay up quick. That worked, money came off my credit card. Only problem is, that it got charged to my credit card again last night with the automated billing system.

This is no problem. I called em up and I'm in credit for next month (and "shouldn't" be charged) but I just thought it'd be a good idea to let you all know.

If you signed up for direct debit why did you then go and pay immediately?

I though that the computer system might not try to withdraw it if it saw it was already paid.

I thought a direct debit mandate on a credit card would somehow work a lil differently from a regular direct debit.

this month, I got my statement which showed my overpayment as a credit and so I was charged nothing.

hope this helps

This confused me at the start too. I pay by credit card direct debit but it's barely mentioned on the bill I receive. It lead me to doubt over if it'll be paid or not; they could do with making it clearer that there's nothing to pay.
