With the basic 2Mb Smart package? When I do a speed test I get around 250mbps. But everyone is talking about 128kps. Please explain what the speed tester results mean somebody.

hi shane,
your results look weird.
could you download this (http://support.smarttelecom.ie/test/100meg.bin) file and post what rate you get?

But it's the upload speed thats weird. My download is usually around the 2Mb mark on the speed tester.
PS. I've been trying to ring Smart Sales for the last two hours to get the €5 upload upgrade but can't get through. Whats up?

The speed I got was 237.0 KB/s. But it could not open application (I expect it probably wasn't supposed to open?).

I've tried that on numerous occasions Colm. Pressing I (caps on) doesn't seem to be doing anything.
And for some reason my upload speed is way worse since I got the €5 upgrade. I feel robbed.
It's giving me results of 2mbps down and 35mbps up.....whereas before I got the upgrade I consistantly got more than 100mbps upload..........crazy.

hi shane,
its difficult to diagnose the problem without a detailed audit of your speed test.
could you try it in internet explorer? .. i think you were using opera the last time i checked our logs. perhaps its blocking the pop-up window?

I tried the same thing in IE. No luck. But in IE I got 268kbps upload. This is really confusing me........

basically for some reason yours tests are producing bogus upstream results.
it sounds like it may be related to you using opera.
to start to work out the exact cause of the problem we need the audit results which should pop up if you click on the speed tester and then hit "I".
this pop up could be blocked by any pop-up blocker like your browser or yahoo, google toolbars etc.
if you are using ie and windows xp sp2, heres (http://www2.haverford.edu/acc/docs/windows/disablingpopupblocker.html) some info on permitting pop-ups.

There is a known bug in the JM version used in Opera it produces false results when checking your upload.
IE/Firefox should produce proper upload results. And your result in IE looks perfect.

hi shane,
if you click in the center of the speed tester before hitting "I" the pop-up should appear. did you try this?
also, perhaps the speed tester will work in opera if you download a newer jre here (http://java.sun.com/downloads/index.html).
