UPDATE:13/07/09
In order to help you monitor and manage your internet traffic usage we are developing a usage tool. When logged into these support forums this will be accessible from the "Smart->Usage Data" menu. Note that you must be logged into the forums to use this tool. For security reasons, in order to access your usage data you will have to enter modem username and password which were in your welcome pack. Note that this tool is still being developed and so you may well experience problems using it. We would welcome your feedback on how it could be improved. Thanks for your help. UPDATE:25/06/09 Some of you will receive emails warning you that your current traffic usage is excessive and asking you to reduce your usage. Failure to do so could, per our terms and conditions, lead to your service being restricted or disconnected, with prior notification. When determining if your traffic usage is excessive, we look at a rolling 30 day window of your upstream + downstream traffic. Currently if this measure exceeds 170GB you will be flagged as having an excessive traffic usage level. If you want to monitor your traffic usage we would suggest using tools like bit meter or du meter. We thank you for your co-operation and trust you will continue to enjoy our services. If you have any queries or require further information please call our Customer Support Team on 1890 945300 or email customercare@smarttelecom.ie. Yours sincerely, Anne-Marie Reid Head of Smart Telecom Contact Centre Last edited by admin; 13th July at 11:23 AM. |

And will all the Smart packages, sites and advertising be altered to remove the current false claims?

Wow, that's an excessively low cap for someone who's on a 24Mbps package. 170GB would allow such a person to use their line at full speed for half an hour a day, as you'd go through 170GB in 16 hours. Not nearly what I would call fair. Why offer 24Mbps if you don't want people to use it, and you can get the same thing on 2Mbps at less than half of the price?
Also, I don't see how you can apply a cap when you don't provide an accurate way for people to monitor it. Software solutions are no good for people who use mobile or streaming devices, as well as those who share their connection to multiple computers. This is a crock, plan and simple. |

does smart believe in contracts and advertisement.
why does smart advertise "unlimited broadband" when it knows there is a cap limit in place as to which no one knew until a few days ago. ok to say F.U.P, but no where does it state what it is. wondering if this is actually brought in due to what happening at eircom re music industry forcing network monitoring. |

Re: Jor El's post
At the moment these are notification emails only - no one will be throttled or disconnected without further notice. Should there be any change to this then online access to the graphs would of course be made available to everyone to keep track of this. |

Are there any plans to introduce additional packages for people who want fewer restrictions on their downloading?

That is a darn poor solution Anne-Marie, if you can't provide live stats then you have not right to cut-off users who signed up for the falsely advertised "Unlimited" service. Please see that your sales website is changed to reflect Smart Telecom's new limited service for users as otherwise it is just dishonest. MF BTW Mods can delete this post if they like but it will be screen captured and available over on www.boards.ie anyway.

This new policy should have been posted before sending out threatening emails. No-one is going to disagree with a FUP but it was poorly communicated. This is a change in policy, irrespective of the small print, and should have been communicated as such.
I'll echo Jor El's point re monitoring. What do I do with multiple PCs, XBox's, PS3s, NAS, Slingplayers, Linux systems? Maybe stick the usage figure on the end of the monthly bill to give us some idea. Last edited by rodje; 25th June at 04:54 PM. |
